PB Community Cares, October 2025 EventIn an inspiring display of unity, three Pacific Beach churches are coming together to fight hunger through the power of music and community. “Songs of the Spirit, Food for the Soul” will be held on Saturday, October 18, from 4:00–6:15 pm at Pacific Beach Presbyterian Church, 1675 Garnet Avenue (parking available off Hornblend Street). The event features a joyful, all-ages community sing-along of American spirituals, folk songs, and bluegrass favorites, hosted by conductor and composer John Yankee. He will be joined by musicians from the San Diego Bluegrass Society, Mission Bay High School, and the PB Community Choir, inviting the entire audience to join in song. Lyrics will be provided. After the music, guests will share in a hearty community meal of homemade chili (with vegetarian and gluten-free options), salad, dessert, and artisan bread generously donated by Wayfarer Bread. Admission is “Donate What You Can - Your Generosity is Appreciated.” Every donation directly benefits the meal programs of Pacific Beach Presbyterian, St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Episcopal, and Pacific Beach United Methodist Churches, which serve consistent, hot meals to neighbors facing hunger in the community. “This isn’t a concert to sit back and watch - it’s an invitation for the whole community to raise their voices together for a common purpose,” said John Yankee. “When we sing and share a meal side by side, we not only lift each other’s spirits, we help ensure that no neighbor in Pacific Beach goes hungry.” With music to unite voices and a meal to unite hearts, PB Community Cares is a reminder that Pacific Beach is strongest when it comes together.
